Description

The world of cantilevers - an introduction to the theory and practice of statically constrained biomechanical systems

Cantilevers are extremely versatile and versatile devices for orthodontic treatment, either as an adjunct to the straight-arch technique or as a segmented-arch technique. They can be used in many treatments and difficult clinical situations in a very time- and cost-effective way.

We recommend this course to all colleagues who would like to expand their knowledge in this field and structure their existing knowledge. The course builds on the basic biomechanical knowledge covered in the Biomechanical Fundamentals of Orthodontics course, so the day will start with a brief review of the previous course. For those who have not attended the previous session, we will provide material to prepare and there will be an opportunity to review details that are not yet fully understood.

Topic:

  • A brief overview of basic biomechanical concepts - We start by reviewing the relevant parts of the material covered in the course "Basics of Orthodontic Biomechanics". This material will be made available to participants prior to the course to give them the opportunity to prepare and ask questions.

  • Theory and practice of cantilevers (lecture) When to use cantilevers? What material should they be made of, what shape should they be? Cantilever design (from the desired tooth movement to choosing the right material and shape)

  • Practical part (hands-on) individual cantilever design Arch bending and design in mulazson/saja case

  • Problem based learning: design on cases brought by the participants if required and if there is interest
